Chinese funeral rituals in Malaysia are steeped in deep cultural norms and taboos, believed to guide the dead, protect the living, and bind families to their roots. Passed down through generations, these practices carry the weight of expectation, and the quiet fear of what may happen if they are broken. But what if those rituals exclude the very people who grieve the most? This short documentary follows Wen Huey, a daughter who lost her father and was told that tradition forbade her from leading his funeral rituals. Caught between grief and expectation, she had to decide what honouring her father truly meant. Through this intimate story, the film gently challenges us to examine the line between preserving culture and practising it blindly — and whether a meaningful farewell is found in ritual, or in love.
