Overview

"Savage" is a term with clear derogatory connotations. While it designates what is external to human society, the same concept also encompasses other cultures, viewed as inferior. It stems from a delusion of grandeur born of an inability to understand logic different from one's own. For a long time, the West labeled the indigenous societies of the Americas as "savages" and "barbaric," investing considerable effort in the "civilizing work."
