Overview
Overdose and Oppression aims to address into how queer communities in the United States have been uniquely affected by the North American opioid epidemic. Through a variety of both field experts and lived experiences, the film brings to light the myriad of factors that can lead to higher rates of substance abuse among marginalized communities. It notes how new anti-queer legislation will directly lead to higher usage and mortality rates how current systems often lack the specific supports needed for these groups. Overdose and Oppression asks its viewers to see people as humans first—regardless of their class, sexuality, or drug use habits.
