Overview
A record of honouring rituals to ancestors’ spirit practiced by one of Tambak Bayan’s villager, Surabaya, Indonesia. Xiao is considered to be part of Confucianism belief that represents a devotion to elders. It falls into a principle that embarks from family realm to a wider realm, the state. In the midst of eviction shadow, Xiao becomes a principle of paying a homage to the state. The piece is part of “Hidup dan Mati di tengah Sengketa” (live and die in the middle of dispute) initiated by an artist collective Milisi Fotokopi in responding urban issues in Surabaya.
