Overview
On November 23, 1944, Allied forces liberated the city of Strasbourg in eastern France. Soon after, American troops advanced further into the countryside. A few months earlier, military intelligence had obtained photographs showing a group of buildings just above the village of Rothau. In the middle of a dense forest, soldiers found 15 barracks of a Nazi concentration camp surrounded by an electric fence with watchtowers. Natzweiler-Struthof was a lesser-known concentration camp during World War II, located in Alsace, France. The area had been controlled by Nazi Saxony for four years as part of the Third Reich. In the French documentary Concentration Camp in France (12), the last survivors of the camp tell their chilling stories, and researchers shed light on its gruesome history.
