1000 Lakes Rally 1985
A superb chance to see how the bespectacled Timo Salonen judges the event to perfection for a 48-second win after 50 very rapid special stages over 3 days and 285 miles. The Finnish master blasts his fabulous world-championship-winning Peugeot 205 T16 Group B car through the forests to take the factory’s 11th world rally win in the world-renowned Rally of the 1000 Lakes. As the Group B era reaches its peak of development, one can only admire the Finns who never seem to lift the right foot as ‘fly’ their 600 bhp projectiles through the forests and countryside. Marvel at the control they maintain while running at speeds the ordinary motorist can only imagine; the night time service halts in the pouring rain; the spot-lit dashes through the narrow lanes and undulating back-roads. All this is the backdrop to the no-holds barred contest between Peugeot, Audi and Lancia captured by Videovision's close-quarter ground cameras and in thrilling helicopter footage.

1000 Lakes Rally 1986
The Italian Lancia and the French Peugeot teams came to the renowned 1000 Lakes Rally hotly disputing the manufacturers' title, with Markku Alen matched against Timo Salonen. Peugeot, however, had another ace in the pack in the shape of 27 year-old rising local star Juha Kankkunen, who was looking extremely good for the drivers' championship. This video captures in enthralling fashion the red-hot battle through the Finnish forests, with their huge ‘yumps’ and flat-out straights. Always a rally to set the pulses racing, Alen had the Lancia Delta running at its best and his ability to control the S4 at seemingly impossible speeds and angles will amaze the viewer. Supporting him would be Kalle Grundel, specially released from his Ford RS200 commitments and pushing hard on his home territory. Again though, Peugeot were taking no chances by fielding the experienced Stig Blomqvist, also no stranger to the 1000 Lakes.

1000 Lakes Rally 1988
The 1000 Lakes Rally 1988 was stunning. Championship leader Miki Biasion elected not to enter, so the Martini Lancia Team was spearheaded by Markku Alen and Mikael Erricsson. Ford hoped to challenge the all conquering Integrales. The Cosworth RS of Didier Auriol fought through the field to hassle the Lancia team. The Toyota Celica GT-Four in the fast care of Juha Kankkunen provided one of the highlights and Mazda made a rare appearance with two 323 Turbos for Timo Salonen and Hannu Mikkola. Add to these, Ari Vatanen in the BMW M3, and you can see why the 1000 Lakes rates so high in all rally drivers esteem.

1000 Lakes Rally 1989
Round 9 of the 1989 World Rally Championship took place in Finland accompanied by a torrential downpour of rain which added the possibility of aquaplaning to its already notorious reputation for not being one of the more popular rally courses. Recognised as a cut and thrust affair where results are often decided by seconds rather than minutes, the 1000 Lakes lived up to its reputation as a tough and demanding drive and on top of the treacherous weather conditions caused by the heavy rain, cars were decimated by mechanical failure and driver error over the 1,447 km course.
